Job Purpose

As the Manager of Statutory Accounting at Burberry, you will ensure the timely preparation, approval, and submission of statutory accounts globally. Collaborating closely with various stakeholders—including payroll, IT, Company Secretarial, Audit, and the broader finance team—you will provide expertise and insights to support processes, policies, and projects.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in our Queen Street, Leeds office. The work schedule is a hybrid of at least two days per week in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the entire project plan to ensure timely preparation, approval, and submission of statutory accounts across the organization.
  • Ensure that information is submitted on time to facilitate the production of statutory accounts and manage any related issues.
  • Assist accountants in prioritizing ad hoc queries to ensure timely responses.
  • Handle responses to Transfer Pricing (TP) requests for related party information necessary for TP documentation and returns.
  • Review and publish reports that update statutory accounting processes and address deficiencies.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., IT, Tax Team, Payroll, Company Secretarial, External Audit) to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Supervise both internal resources and external service providers, including external auditors.
  • Support the design, development, and documentation of the Statutory Accounting team’s processes.
  • Guide the team regarding roles, goals, timelines, and standards to ensure work meets expected quality levels.
  • Provide statutory accounting expertise for Finance on projects, regulatory changes, and other initiatives as they arise.
  • Lead efforts to optimize processes to ensure the timely production of Statutory Accounts, utilizing workflow management tools.
  • Stay updated on best practices in statutory accounting concepts, technologies, and methodologies, implementing them at Burberry where feasible.
  • Collaborate with process owners and team leaders to identify root causes and represent process procedures, practicalities, and exceptions.
  • Seek and act on feedback from stakeholders and the delivery team to improve future service delivery.
  • Support the more comprehensive Indirect Tax Processing and Statutory Accounting team as needed.

Personal Profile

  • A professional accounting qualification is required (ACA, CA, ACCA, or CIMA).
  • Demonstrated experience in team management and effective leadership, particularly during challenging periods of change.
  • Solid technical knowledge of statutory accounting across multiple regions.
  • Ability to understand broader issues and guide junior team members beyond technical expertise.
  • We have a proven track record and enthusiasm for driving continuous improvement and fostering a culture of change within the team.
  • Experience collaborating with peers and various organizational levels to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of IT systems and processes; familiarity with SAP is advantageous.
  • Capable of influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders on various operational matters, establishing credibility at all levels.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, particularly in stakeholder management.
  • Builds effective relationships through strong interpersonal skills and technical expertise to promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Able to operate tactically as well as at a detailed level when necessary.
  • Capacity to work under pressure while managing multiple priorities and operational demands.
  • Actively seeks and responds to personal feedback, demonstrating high self-awareness.
  • Shows an appreciation for technology’s role in driving efficiencies and improving service delivery.
