The Role of Finance Manager
As a Finance Manager, you will play a crucial role in executing strategies that align with our office’s performance goals. You will work closely with the Office Leader and the Office Management Team (OMT) to develop and maintain best business practices in finance and operations. This position entails significant responsibilities, including overseeing operating budgets, forecasting processes, and analyzing monthly performance in relation to established plans.
Key Raesponsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
As a Finance Manager, your primary duty will be to partner with office leadership in preparing the strategic planning and operating budget. You will actively participate in evaluating and implementing strategic initiatives, monitoring monthly results, and conducting financial analysis to provide recommendations for improved performance.
Team Management and Development
You will have the opportunity to organize and lead a high-performing project finance team. This involves recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and developing finance professionals. Your role as a Finance Manager will include overseeing the Career Planning and Development process, which consists of goal setting, coaching, performance evaluations, and compensation reviews.
Month-End Reporting and Compliance
In your capacity as a Finance Manager, you will lead month-end reporting and revenue recognition activities. You will ensure adherence to revenue recognition policies, maintaining the integrity of financial data. Collaborating with project managers and the finance team, you will ensure accurate representation of project earnings through comprehensive reporting and revenue projections.
Financial Guidance
Providing financial management guidance to project management and finance teams will be a critical aspect of your role. You will ensure the appropriate setup and delivery of contractual obligations, focusing on areas such as cash management, subcontract management, and cost management.
Contract Review and Negotiation
As a Finance Manager, you will engage in the pursuit process, utilizing your knowledge of contract terms to optimize project cash and profitability outcomes. You will participate in the contract review and negotiation process, driving successful contract outcomes that enhance profitability.
Cash Management
You will champion cash management goals, ensuring effective cash collections and timely resolution of delinquent billings. Your role will involve financial forecasting, modeling, and analysis to guide office and project teams in adhering to standardized financial processes throughout the client lifecycle.
Budget Adherence
Collaborating with office leadership to achieve budgeted overhead expenses is crucial. As a Finance Manager, you will analyze non-labor overhead expenses and advise management on strategies to maintain sound business practices.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for the Finance Manager position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 10 years of financial, project accounting/analysis, or related experience, with at least 2 years in a people management role. Candidates with 14 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Team Leadership: Experience managing 8 or more direct and indirect finance reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the AE/transportation industry is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The approximate pay range for the Finance Manager position in the California San Francisco Bay Area is $179,060 to $286,031. Actual compensation will depend on individual qualifications, experience, skills, and location.
