We are currently seeking a Tax Investigations Manager to join our national team. This role involves working collaboratively on a variety of clients and engaging projects, connecting with different teams across the firm.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience managing HMRC inquiries and investigations, as well as assisting clients with voluntary disclosures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Portfolio Management: Oversee a portfolio of clients, ensuring timely delivery of services and maintaining high standards of client satisfaction.
  • Support and Collaboration: Work closely with partners, senior managers, and colleagues within the Family Office and Private Client (FOPC) team to address tax inquiries, investigations, and voluntary disclosures, aiming for satisfactory settlements with HM Revenue & Customs.
  • Advisory Role: Provide ad hoc advice to the FOPC team and other tax teams on various issues related to HMRC inquiries and voluntary disclosures.
  • Business Development: Contribute to marketing initiatives and build sustainable relationships with both internal and external clients.
  • Project Oversight: Manage the daily operations of investigations or disclosures for your client portfolio, ensuring work is completed to a high standard within agreed timelines.
  • Documentation Preparation: Draft investigation and disclosure letters and reports, reviewing the computational aspects for submission to HMRC. Collaborate with partners or senior managers while delegating tasks to junior staff.
  • Client Liaison: Communicate directly with clients and other parties to ensure project objectives are met, participating in settlement negotiations alongside senior team members.
  • Financial Management: Oversee billing and collections for your client portfolio, identifying and capitalizing on business and sales opportunities, and communicating these to the relevant director or senior manager.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience: Extensive background in tax inquiries, investigations, and voluntary disclosures, including offshore disclosures and international matters such as domicile issues and fraud investigations (e.g., COP9).
  • Knowledge of HMRC Procedures: Comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in managing tax inquiries or disclosures and familiarity with HMRC procedures (e.g., information powers, assessments, and penalties).
  • Client Service Skills: Excellent client service capabilities, with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for building networks of internal and external contacts.
  • Career Ownership: A proactive approach to personal career development and ownership of your professional journey.
  • Qualifications: CTA, ACA, or ACCA qualified, or relevant work experience, such as training at HMRC.
