Basic Functions of a Service Technician
Field Service Responsibilities
As a Service Technician, you will perform field service tasks on the Stryker Communications product line installed at customer sites. This involves troubleshooting and repairing complex technical issues to ensure the functionality of our products. You will maintain quality records post-service, performing quality checks on the Stryker Communications product line after servicing to guarantee optimal performance.
Independent Operations
In your capacity as a Service Technician, you will work independently while receiving guidance and tasking from your Team Lead or Regional Service Manager (RISM). You’ll follow established written procedures for troubleshooting and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, documenting each step from the initiation of service calls to the resolution of issues, including all quality records involved.
Responsibilities of a Service Technician
Collaborative Problem Solving
As a Service Technician, you will interact with Operations and Research & Development teams to solve complex issues that may arise. Keeping your team members and supervisor informed about any issues requiring FDA notification and Medical Device Reporting (MDR) is also essential.
Training and Compliance
In addition to troubleshooting, Service Technicians may conduct training sessions for new hires and provide guidance to onsite hospital biomedical and nursing staff. It is crucial to stay current with all ComplianceWire training, ensuring no certifications are past due. You will have the independence to perform necessary tasks to meet all provisions of our quality system.
Decision-Making Authority
As a Service Technician, you will routinely make decisions that can affect immediate operations and have a company-wide impact. Your ability to prioritize issues effectively and communicate clearly with surgeons, hospital staff, nurses, and biomedical personnel is critical for success in this role.
Physical Requirements
The position of Service Technician involves physical demands, including exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. You should be able to review printed materials and demonstrate fine motor skills necessary for operating sophisticated test and office equipment. Comfort with large pieces of equipment is also required.
Skills and Experience Required
To excel as a Service Technician, you should have:
- Two years of installation or production line experience with Stryker Communications, or 2-3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills to ensure successful interactions with healthcare staff.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications like Excel and Word.
- Basic electronic and mechanical aptitude, with skills in cable termination for standard digital and analog connectors.
- Knowledge of video, audio, and data communications systems, as well as an understanding of operating room etiquette and hospital procedures.
