Role Overview: Electrician

As an electrician on our vessels, you will play a vital role in maintaining and managing all electrical systems onboard. This includes power generation, distribution systems, engine room systems, fish processing systems, and more. Key Responsibilities of an Electrician

Electrical System Management

  • Maintain Electrical Systems: As an electrician, you will be responsible for all electrical systems onboard, ensuring their safety and functionality. This includes power generation and distribution systems, as well as specialized systems like fish processing and hotel systems.
  • Troubleshooting: You will troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnosing faults in systems and recommending resolutions to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Repairs and Replacements: Your role will involve repairing or replacing wiring and fixtures using hand and power tools, ensuring that all equipment meets safety standards.

Inspection and Compliance

  • System Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards and confirm compliance with applicable codes.
  • Testing Equipment: Utilize testing devices like ohmmeters and voltmeters to examine electrical circuits and confirm compatibility and safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Work closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure all electrical systems adhere to regulatory standards, including U.S.C.G., DNV, FCC, and OSHA.

Training and Leadership

  • Training Other Staff: As an experienced electrician, you will direct and train other engineering staff in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
  • Routine Maintenance: Perform routine and annual maintenance on all electrical systems based on manufacturer recommendations to ensure reliability and safety.

Safety Procedures

  • Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures: Demonstrate competence in Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and energy isolation to enhance workplace safety.
  • Safety Management System: Ensure compliance with the Safety Management System and stay informed about relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful as an electrician in our team, you should meet the following qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a marine electrician is preferred.
  • Physical Ability: Be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing steep stairs, and using vertical ladders.
  • Team Player: Self-motivated and a strong team player, you must be able to work collaboratively in a challenging environment.
  • Communication Skills: Proficiency in understanding instructions and safety rules in English is essential.
  • References: Provide two recent positive references from previous employers.

Working Conditions

  • Work Schedule: You will work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, in all weather conditions. Flexibility and resilience are key.
  • Shared Spaces: Be prepared to share living spaces with other crew members, including quarters, dining areas, and bathrooms.

Salary Range

The salary range for the electrician position is between $148,000 and $165,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
