Overall Job Purpose
As an Assistant Manager, you will play a vital role in the expanding national financial reporting advisory team, focusing on clients within Scotland’s central belt. You will support the wider team and assist managers in profitably delivering services across a portfolio of corporate clients. Your work will involve technical accounting, financial reporting, and consolidations, including applying accounting standards such as FRS 102, IFRS, and FRS 101, managing group reconstructions, and providing support for acquisition accounting. Additionally, you will prepare or oversee the preparation of statutory accounts under IFRS and FRS 101.
The rapid growth of the department offers opportunities to develop skills in business development and coaching junior staff. You will collaborate with a diverse range of colleagues and clients across the UK while supporting your local office. A strong grasp of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting principles is essential, as financial reporting advisory projects typically culminate in detailed reports, requiring excellent report-writing skills.
Responsibilities
- Project Support: Assist managers in delivering complex accounting projects, such as IFRS transition consultancy or acquisition accounting and consolidations.
- Technical Knowledge Development: Maintain an advanced understanding of technical accounting through continuous learning and professional development, staying updated on the firm’s services and publications.
- Client Communication: Act as the primary contact for clients, addressing any issues or concerns and collaborating with managers to devise solutions.
- Portfolio Management: Oversee a portfolio of clients and projects, ensuring high-quality client service, project management, and efficient billing.
- Interdepartmental Liaison: Work closely with other departments, particularly audit and tax teams, to meet deadlines and resolve issues promptly.
- Team Development: Mentor junior team members and participate in training and supervision. Depending on your experience, this role may include line management responsibilities.
- Travel Requirements: Be prepared to travel to client locations, although a significant portion of the work will likely be office-based.
Personal and Professional Qualities
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Qualifications: ICAS or equivalent qualification.
- Experience: UK GAAP and IFRS financial reporting experience; prior work in a professional practice, ideally within an accounting advisory team; experience providing written accounting advice to clients.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK financial reporting requirements.
- Commercial Awareness: Ability to add value through commercial insight.
- Skills: Excellent project management, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Client Interaction: Experience working directly with clients and supervising junior staff.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
