What Does an Ambulatory Liaison Do?
An Ambulatory Liaison Job in USA plays a crucial role in connecting patients with the pharmacy services they need. You will work under the supervision of a pharmacist and a Pharmacy Technician Supervisor. Your main job is to ensure that patients receive their medications in a timely and affordable manner. You will interact with patients, their families, and other healthcare providers to facilitate smooth pharmacy operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service:
- Greet patients warmly and help them with their medication needs.
- Answer questions about medication costs and availability.
- Inform patients about wait times and any issues with drug availability.
- Prescription Management:
- Authorize prescription refills following the hospital’s guidelines.
- Use the electronic health record (EHR) system to manage patient information and prescriptions.
- Ensure that all prescription transactions are accurate and processed correctly.
- Financial Assistance:
- Help patients apply for financial assistance programs to make medications more affordable.

Required Qualifications
To qualify for the Ambulatory Liaison position, you should meet the following requirements:
Education:
- High School Diploma: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- College Education: Completion of one to two years of college is preferred.
Certifications:
- Pharmacy Technician License: Must have a current unrestricted Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician II license.
- Certification: Must hold and maintain a current National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
Experience:
- Pharmacy Experience: At least one year of experience as a pharmacy technician is required. Experience in a related field, such as benefits management or customer service, may be considered in lieu of technician experience.
- Specialty Pharmacy Services: Prior experience with specialty pharmacy services, call center customer service, prior authorization management, and patient financial assistance programs is strongly preferred.
